fubol

Soccer
Ok for any fucker that’s not from any civilized part of the world, its football. The use of the feet and a ball are prominent, although the hand is totally fair game (it’s just God man!). The game originated in the Old Brit Empire; though that’s just the version of this type of game we play down in South America. But forget about history, besides I just googled that shit, so it’s probably not true. So why do I want to speak of football, because today it’s just another indicator of the shallowness of society.

Well to be more precise Ecuadorian society, not really known to the first world as anything more than a beach, a Sierra and a few islands (probably around Africa). But we’re big on certain shit down here, like foreigners and football. There are 2 “big” teams, both from Guayaquil (port city, economic center of this shit hole), Emelec and Barcelona. One founded by foreigners and the other inspired by them. The latter has the biggest following in the country, give or take almost half of the country follows the yellow and black team.

So why is this year different? Well for one thing, Barcelona is on the cusp of finally winning a championship. The last one was 14 years ago, for some pre-teens or even teens, they don’t remember ever following a championship team. But of course that’s great for them; it’s an awesome to feel the rush for an accomplishment you had no fucking part of.  But ok, it’s cool. Actually I’m a big fan of hooligans, well the movie, the criminal part of it seems, bleh? It’s the dedication that amazes me; they go up and down with their teams, through the roller-coaster of relegation and ascension.

The Ecuadorian fan is, totally saying it in a nice way, a fucking little bitch. For about 10 years, that team couldn’t fill their white elephant (made thanks to public money, this also is not the first government that uses public money in selfish shit), a stadium made for 80,000 fans that only sold out twice a year and made for a beautiful gray background when watching matches on TV. Of course modern sports work with money; it’s easy, bad team equals no fans divided by no income for team it results in a poor on field product. And yet, fucking “fans” no show, and they fucking expect money to pour like mana and see a competitive team on the field. This is a case, of fans that don’t want to invest in a team that has no chance.

I used to be a football fan, but sports have slowly lost their allure. And yet, you turn on the television, watch any sport on HD, it’s amazing what technology did for spectator sports. Maybe that’s what actually killed the spectators’ experience. It’s calming to just leave it on, let the noise fill the background and just work on something. Well, it’s either that or a sitcom, the former of course has more action, and the latter tends to be more distracting.
